| Cardiac
Care & Research Centre was established in January of 1999. First
Open-heart surgery (coronary artery bypass) was successfully performed
on February 21, 1999. Currently, the centre does six to eight open heart
surgeries and fifteen to twenty angiograms per week including routine
angioplasties and pacemaker implantations.
Accomplishment of the centre is comparable to any western cardiac hospital. Results are astounding - less than 1% mortality for 604 open-heart procedures with 95% being coronary artery bypass as of year 2001. These triumph is due to the visionary actions of the founder, Mr. Sikder. Cardiac operating rooms and ICU's are equipped with all imported advanced equipments. Success of any sophisticated medical center depends on the technical expertise and dedications of the medical staff. Bangladesh lacked both the technology and human resources. To remedy these deficiency, Mr. Sikder brought in highly skilled cardiac surgeons, cardiologists, anesthesiologists and over 50 supporting nursing and technical staffs from abroad. In conjunction with foreign expertise, Cardiac centre has been working with local specialists and doctors to form a team that became excellent in providing health care services in coronary heart disease in Bangladesh.
