MESSAGES and SPEECHES
from
At Formal Inauguration of Cardiac Care & Research Centre |
|
FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Salahuddin Khan |
|
I
feel highly delighted at this auspicious moment of the formal
inauguration of Population of Bangladesh at present is 140 million, which was only 70 million at the time of liberation war in 1971. Demand for technical education is rising. Demand for doctors in this country is increasing at all levels. There are only 1200 seats for medical students each year in all the 13 Govt. medical colleges together. Economically, Bangladesh at present is an emerging power in South Asia. But the government alone cannot keep up with the rising demand of medical education because of huge cost involvement in providing equipments, books, teaching staffs and other things. This situation stained the mind of Mr. Z. H. Sikder, a brave freedom fighter, a versatile businessman and renowned industrialist. Women in our country are religious minded and we have very few women doctors in this country. So he established this Women’s Medical College especially giving extra emphasis on women's medical education in 1992, beside the river Buriganga on the western side of Dhanmondi on 20 Bighas of land having built in areas of over 4,50,000 sqft. At present there are over six hundred students in this medical college and they are doing exceedingly well in their professional examinations, and two batches have already become doctors. The establishment of this Women’s Medical College and the attached teaching hospital of 500 beds with conventional departments are a monumental and glorious example of Mr. Sikder’s pioneering role in the cause and spread of female education and health service in Bangladesh. I thank the rector Prof. M..A.T. Siddique, senior professors, other doctors and staff for bringing the college to the present level. I am unable to conceal my appreciation to the students for their high academic performance. Bangladesh is still adolescent as a nation, and for the last 30 years development of medical science was lagging behind many other countries. The present Government is trying heart and soul to bring revolutionary changes in Medical education and treatment. Mr. Z. H. Sikder was inspired to keep pace with the government in the emerging medical sector and he fulfilled this promise by commissioning the Z. H. Sikder Cardiac care and Research Centre . He has recruited some foreign doctors and nurses who are working hand in hand with their local counterparts to give relief to heart patients. Everyday up to 70 cardiac patients are seen in the Out- Patient Clinic, every week 6 - 8 operations are accomplished, and every week 15 - 20 Angiograms/ Stenting / Balloonplasty and pace maker implanstation are done. There are 18 bedded CCU, 6 bedded Cardiac surgical ICU and 60 bedded Cardiac units, two operation theaters, two Cath-Labs, four out patient Departments, two echocardiography, four ETT, four X - ray, two Ultrasonography, Mammography, Color Doppler rooms and CT scan room. All the rooms are equipped with the machineries of latest models, most of them imported from USA. In
fact Dr. Murali Prabhakaran Vettath, the chief cardiac surgeon -
cum- Clinical Director took a lot of trouble to bring this centre
to a fully functional stage by his dynamic leadership and inspirational
motivation. He also encouraged a number of foreign doctors, nurses and
other staffs to come over to this place. Also to be commended are the
extraordinary roles played by Dr. T. Prasandan - the chief cardiac
anesthesiologist, late Dr. A. K. M. Shahidul Islam, anesthesiologist and
other doctors and nurses in the surgical ICU in bringing up the cardiac
surgery to international standards. Actually Their relentless efforts,
constant vigilance, active participation with indomitable courage and
determination has brought a ray of good hope to a huge number of cardiac
patients of this country. The contributions of Dr Ajit Kumar in
establishing the cardiology department are commendable. Dr. Ravi Kumar
and his colleagues are to be praised for maintaining high levels of
standard in cardiology services. Joy Bangla. Joy Bangabandhu Long Live Bangladesh
